Serve's First Responder Interaction Plan

by Yariel Diaz, Director of Government Affairs
Safety is our top priority at Serve. That’s why whenever we launch our autonomous delivery robots in a new city, first responders are among the first people we talk with.
They often ask the same important questions:
  • How fast do the robots travel?
  • How do they know when to stop?
  • What redundancies are built in?
  • And if needed, how can first responders safely interact with them?
To help answer those questions, and to strengthen the relationships that keep our communities safe, we’re excited to introduce our First Responder Interaction Plan (FRIP).
The First Responder Interaction Plan is a structured program designed to foster collaboration between Serve and local emergency services, including law enforcement, fire departments, EMS, 911 centers, and municipal agencies.
Through FRIP, we provide:
  • Detailed briefings on our safety systems, redundancies, and fail-safes
  • Quick-reference materials tailored for first responders
  • FAQs covering common questions about interaction and intervention
  • 24/7 support through Operations Centers to pause, reroute, or disable robots if needed
  • On-site personnel available as needed
Our training and partnership programs give first responders the opportunity to see our robots up close, interact with our team, ask tough questions and help shape how we integrate responsibly into their communities.
Importantly, FRIP is an evolving framework, meant to be refined continuously based on feedback from local agencies. Every city operates differently, and our goal is to learn directly from those who know their communities best.
As Serve’s Director of Government Affairs, I have the privilege of connecting with police, fire, and EMS departments in every community we enter. My goal is to make sure they know us personally and have the chance to meet our team, understand our technology, and experience firsthand our commitment to safety and service.
We believe this kind of two-way dialogue is essential to building public trust and ensuring first responders always have the information and access they need to operate confidently alongside our autonomous systems.
Our mission is simple: enhance operational safety and public confidence by ensuring first responders are informed, empowered, and supported when interacting with Serve’s delivery robots.
